The UP School of Urban and Regional Planning supports the fulfillment of the legal mandate of the Philippine Constitution (Article II Section 14) that recognizes the role of women in nation-building; Republic Act 9710 (Magna Carta of Women) that identifies gender mainstreaming as the national strategy for gender and development; and the Republic Act 7192 (Women in Development and Nation Building Act) that promotes the integration of women as full and equal partners with men in development and nation building.
The University of the Philippines School of Urban and Regional Planning (UP SURP) Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (FPS) envisions a gender-sensitive academic community with an inclusive learning environment that supports the aspirations of the University, UP SURP, and the UP Diliman Gender Office.
The UP SURP GAD FPS is committed to pursue initiatives related to the mainstreaming of GAD in the UP SURP course offerings and activities, promoting and implementing GAD programs and awareness, conducting GAD-related research, training, and extension services, responding to GAD issues and concerns, and supporting the gender-lensed and inclusive workplace.
The core values served as the drivers of raising consciousness, promoting equality and sensitivity, as well as understanding and recognizing GAD and its alignment with the core values of the UP SURP: Selfless service, Unity, Respect, Passion for purpose and people (S-U-R-P).
